About

What is a Nurse Practitioner?

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a Registered Nurse with the experience, expertise and ability to diagnose and treat people with a variety of acute or chronic health conditions. NPs have completed additional university study at a Master’s degree level and are the most senior and independent clinical nurses in the Australian health care system.

National standards for practice ensure that NPs are fully capable of providing high quality, client-centred care. NPs are also skilled in clinical research, education and leadership as applied to clinical care and health service development.

Nurse Practitioners:

  • Have practised in Australia for 21+ years
  • Have a strong presence of 2000+ practitioners across Australia
  • Are an integral part of the Australian, UK, USA and Canadian healthcare systems
  • Can provide client rebates through Medicare
  • Can provide prescriptions via access to PBS medicines
  • Can refer client to specialists
  • Can order diagnostic radiology and pathology tests
  • Are fully registered and endorsed with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) via the Australia Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA)

NPathy NPs are experienced and qualified to autonomously assess and diagnose mental health conditions through comprehensive assessment. At times radiology or pathology tests may be required to exclude physical health conditions that can mimic mental health symptoms. NPs provide therapy, counselling, medication prescribing and management as well as monitoring physical health and metabolic issues commonly associated with psychiatric conditions.

NPathy NPs are holistic practitioners that see you as human first and foremost. NPathy listens to you, hears you and examine your concerns from more than a biological and psychological approach. NPathy NPs take into consideration your social and emotional wellbeing, relationships, accommodation, trauma history, disability status, etc. prior to formulating a comprehensive and thorough treatment/management plan.
